Frequently Asked Questions: Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure, and our patients deserve clear, science-backed answers. Below are the most common questions we hear about our physician-led protocols.
The Clinical Standard in West County
Radical transparency, by design.
At Laser Me, we believe patients deserve straight answers. These are the questions our West County patients ask most often about results, safety, preparation, and recovery — answered by a physician-led team with 26+ years of clinical history and more than 12,000 patients served.
Understanding the Results
What to expect.
We pride ourselves on transparent, evidence-based expectations. While individual response varies based on hair density, color, and skin type, most patients begin to notice a meaningful reduction in hair growth after their initial session.
Over our 26+ years of clinical practice, we have found that most patients reach their goal of permanent hair reduction across a personalized series of sessions. During your complimentary consultation, we will map out a protocol timeline based on your unique biology and clinical goals.
We describe the outcome as permanent hair reduction. Our objective is to disable the hair follicle so it can no longer produce a mature hair. This provides a long-term solution rather than a temporary fix.
Consistency is key to follicular destruction. Missing sessions can disrupt the growth cycle we are targeting. If you anticipate a schedule conflict, let us know as soon as possible so we can adjust your protocol timeline.
Safety & the Technology
Built on clinical safety.
Yes. Unlike older technologies, the Candela GentleMax Pro® features dual wavelengths — Alexandrite and Nd:YAG. This versatility allows our practitioners to safely and effectively treat a broad spectrum of skin tones with clinical precision.
Laser energy is a powerful tool. Under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Hodor, we ensure that every protocol is vetted for safety. We don’t just “run a laser”; we manage your skin’s health, calibrating treatment to your unique physiological response.
Patient comfort is a priority. The Candela GentleMax Pro® uses a patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD™) that delivers a burst of cryogen to the skin milliseconds before the laser pulse, providing a soothing, protective effect that makes the treatment highly tolerable.
Some patients experience mild redness or “perifollicular edema” (a small bump around the hair follicle) immediately following treatment. This is a sign that the laser is effectively targeting the root and usually subsides within a few hours.
Preparation & Recovery
Before and after your session.
No. To maintain the effectiveness of your protocol, you must stop waxing, plucking, or threading. These methods remove the hair from the root, which the laser needs to target. Shaving is the only permitted method of maintenance during your series.
For 14 to 21 days post-treatment, you must strictly avoid direct sun exposure on the treated area. Laser-treated skin is temporarily photosensitive, and following this recovery window is essential to avoid hyperpigmentation and protect your skin barrier.
For 5 to 7 days post-treatment, we recommend avoiding harsh exfoliants, acids, or retinoids on the treated area. Stick to gentle, physician-recommended soothing products to allow your skin to recover.
Yes. Please shave the area 24 hours prior to your session. This ensures the laser energy is directed entirely at the follicle rather than the hair shaft above the skin.
Clinical Logistics
Care for every patient.
Absolutely not. We provide clinical laser hair removal for all patients. Many men visit us to manage hair on the back, chest, or neck to eliminate the discomfort of shaving and chronic ingrown hairs.
We prioritize clinical safety above all else. We generally advise against elective laser procedures during pregnancy. Please inform our team of your health status during your consultation so we can plan your protocol appropriately.
Still have a question that isn’t covered here? That is by design — we prioritize a personalized assessment. Book a complimentary consultation at our Town and Country clinic and we will examine your skin, discuss your history, and design a protocol tailored specifically to you.
